Hi Kate, and thanks for your comment. I'm glad you found the article helpful. If you have a page that tracks RSS feeds I highly recommend keeping up with www.Searchengineland.com; they are one of my go-to sites for changes and news about search engines.

I found this post to be very useful. Although I was aware that Google was changing and including more and more things that were not useful to my work searching, I was not aware of the specific ways in which I could prevent it happening. The verbatim search tip is great! I will be using it in the future. The TED talk you linked to was really worrying. It made me wonder just how much I am already not seeing when I search.

[...] New Google = New Coke If you weren’t around then (and I suspect most of the Google decision-makers weren’t) I know it’s hard to believe that consumers actually rose up and made such a stink that a mega company completely reversed course about something, but … http://www.helenbrowngroup.com/ [...]

You're absolutely right, Jen. We need to reach out to folks in the media (and even in fundraising!) to let them know what we do and how we do it, and be supportive and encourage those who are trying to understand.

Great job expressing the prospect researcher perspective on recent media attention! It's important to point out when some balance is restored and you summed it up so well - and humorously. Thanks for the sanity.

This interview is fascinating. I had heard of Mark Schaefer, but I hadn't heard of you, Helen, and I want to say thank you for helping us development researchers figure out how to stop google from messing with our search results and invading our privacy.

Aside from clearing your cache. You might also want to try other ways of blocking the way different websites track you as well,
Such as ghostery (it can show you all of the different ways websites try to track you in the upper right hand part of your browser)
And Adblock plus of course is good
Not to mention Https everywhere

Thanks for the intro to eli Pariser as well!
Peace,

Mazarine
PS. I've got a blog post with more ways to stay anonymous online here:
